Use heavier jigs
By Todd Fussy
The use of heavier jigs (lead or tungsten) serves many purposes.
The first and most important purpose is that it will allow the jigs to reach the larger fish which are typically lower in the water column. When the jig is put down the hole you drilled with your Strikemaster auger, it will sink faster through the upper water column and minimize the chances of the smaller fish hitting your bait.
Secondly, the use of a heavier jig will prevent your bait from getting held up in the slush toward the top of the hole.
Additionally, when the jig is tipped with eurolarve from your Strikemaster bait puck your jigging actions will be more noticeable to the fish due to the increased overall weight.
